Quilting Nightmare

Early this morning I dreamt that I had soaked this quilt in cold salt water in the tub to set the colors (something I haven't considered!).  In this dream, the colors faded completely away.  Then when I examined it closer, I had quilted the backing over the top!  Needless to say, I awoke with a start!!!!  I think that all this anxiety is because this is my first attempt to use batiks.  I never prewash either.  Probably not the best combo!!!  Any suggestions would be wonderful!!
Actually, the quilting is going well.  I am done with the middle, and I'm on the borders.  Quilting the borders with lavender thread thanks to a tip from Joan.  She has some wondermous quilts, so be sure to stop over and visit her.
Anyhow, I am happy that this quilt is nearing the end.  Bummer though, FedEx isn't delivering my Hancock's order (shipped Feb 9th) because of the weather.  I am "needing" the fabric to finish my siggy babies quilt.  That means that I need to get a move on and finish this quilt, as well as some not so fun sewing so that I must do.  Then I am free to create!!!!  I guess it is just as well that I don't have that fabric to tempt me from duty!!! ;0)

Blessings (and sweet quilty dreams) to you all,

  1. I would throw a handful of Colour Catchers in when you wash it. I understand that batiks can run, but I don't use them, so I don't know from first hand experience. Colour Catchers have been great for the times I have washed red fabrics. Good luck!

  2. LOL -- it sounds like the kind of nightmare I would have! I never prewash my fabric -- haven't in years, but I rarely use batiks, so not much experience there. Hope that lavender thread works out for you!

  3. Oh, and I'm loving all the purples, BTW :)

  4. I'll second the Shout brand color catchers, they've never ever failed me and I don't prewash either... but I confess I haven't used batiks either.

  5. I haven't had any problem with my batiks running after being washed. I would use the color catcher though to make sure. I love your purples. You got me noticing purple everywhere now.

  6. the only thing i use is color catchers...and probably a bunch of them for these colors. how funny that your dream startled you awake

  7. Just soak it in white vinegar and cold water for say 20 minutes, rinse and dry. It will set the colors and not stink! You can then wash it again if you like. It is always hard to finish those UFO's isn't it, especially, when there is new fabric out there!

I love to hear your thoughts, and I try to respond. Thanks for sharing your time and encouragement!
